SSN request for USA customs

When goods enter the United States from other countries, it is considered an importation and must be cleared by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The individual or the company who purchased goods from a Canadian company is considered the ultimate importer by  U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Most orders pass through the U.S. customs without any issues, but based on past experiences, some orders worth over $800 USD can be temporarily held by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for a formal entry review.

In these cases, a social security number (SSN) must be provided for them to release your order and for our delivery partner to proceed with the delivery. An IRS or tax identification number may also be provided instead if you are buying for a business. Our operations team will then be able to speak with U.S. Customs directly and release your order for delivery.

Although this does not happen regularly for our clients, it is sometimes required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection if your package is selected for review.

For more information on why U.S. Customs and Border Protection may be asking for your SSN, please refer to the following link: https://help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-314?language=en_US.

Because we know this is sensitive information, you can always ask us to schedule a call to discuss this further. You can also contact us, at your convenience, at the phone number found on our official website.
